Starting School

BBC Resources to support parents and pre-schoolers starting primary school.

The aim of the resources, and accompanying campaign, is to provide support in key areas parents feel they need help with such as toilet training, a good sleep routine and emotional and social skills like making friends and taking turns.

In short videos, written articles and downloadable guides, experts such as psychologist Lauren Antrobus, head teacher Dave McPartlin and Helen Stroudley from parent support charity ‘Peeple’, give their top tips and expert guidance. Peer-to-peer resources from other parents offer words of reassurance and advice about how they coped when their children started school.

The campaign launches with a brand-new Bitesize game. Children and their parents design their own avatar and ‘experience’ the school environment. Featuring four classroom activities to try and a going home song to sing along to, it promises to be great fun as well as offering parents the opportunity to talk to their little ones about what school might be like.
